A WEST Devon man's mega fundraising campaign for Devon Air Ambulance comes to a brain-teasing climax this month, with a marathon 13 quizzes in 13 hours event.
Shaun McDermott, who became landlord of the Leaping Salmon in Horrabridge this summer, decided to launch his new business with a charity drive, which started with a very successful Eurovision night.
Shaun said: 'It was supposed to be 13 things in 13 weeks — but it's 13-ish weeks now!
'We've had bingo, euchre, darts — Jim Cole did a fun run which raised £1,500 on its own, which was amazing — we had a ladies' night which was very popular, but we thought we'd do something a bit different for a finale.'
The 13 quizzes will take place at the Leaping Salmon on Monday, October 24 — the first day of half term — beginning at 10am and going on until 11pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and take part, staying for as many quizzes as they wish, at £1 per person, per quiz.
Shaun, who juggles running the pub with his Pens and Moor business in Tavistock Pannier Market, said: 'They will all be different, about 30 questions each. I am doing all of them, but don't let that put anyone off!
'If people want to come out for a coffee for an hour and do the quizz while they are here that will be great, or for an hour in the afternoon.
'We really just want to get as many people as possible involved, have a bit of fun, have a laugh and raise as much money as we can for the ambulance.'
Shaun said he aimed to raise £3,000 for the air ambulance in total.
He said support for the events he has held so far had been really good, so he was keeping his fingers crossed the fundraising finale would finish the charity drive in fine style.
