THE Tamar Community Trust is seeking new trustees to support its work protecting and regenerating the environment and communities of the Tamar Valley.

The trust, formed in 2009, is based at the Tamar Valley Centre at Drakewalls. It will soon acquire ownership of the building and take responsibility for managing the extensive network of trails and visitor facilities created by the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project.

David Lane, chair of the trustees said: 'The Tamar Valley has not only a treasured environment, but a rich and wonderful history. We set up the trust to help protect and celebrate the area and also to start and support projects that help people enjoy and make the most of the area.

'We want to recruit new trustees who can help guide us in this important work. We would particularly welcome people who have a commitment to the heritage of the Tamar Valley and who can offer legal, marketing or entrepreneurial expertise.'

Tim Selman, manager of the Tamar Valley AONB that is supporting the trust, said: 'The trust will have an important role to play in managing new facilities created by the AONB such as the Tamar Valley Centre and the network of trails. But it will also have a role in starting new projects that bring positive benefits to the environment and communities of the valley.'

An open evening will be held on February 27 at the Tamar Valley Centre to tell those interested more about the Tamar Community Trust and its work. Further details and an application pack can be found at http://www.tamarvalley.org.uk/trust">www.tamarvalley.org.uk/trust or by calling 01822 835030.
