THE Trout and Tipple entered the match against Tavistock CC in high spirits. However the Tavistock openers both recorded half-centuries before Shaun tempted the batsman down the wicket to have him stumped. The introduction of Phil Edwards brought immediate results as he recorded a wicket on his second ball. Up the other end Alan Richards also made a breakthrough before bowling an expensive over. Wright introduced himself to the attack in an attempt to slow down the scoring rate, and his two overs were relatively tight and returned him one wicket. The re-introduction of Edwards brought about another quick wicket, leaving him the pick of the bowlers, with 2 for 16 off four. Phil Honey bowled the final over of the Tavistock innings conceding one run and containing Tavistock to 215 for 5 off their allotted 35 overs. The TandT set about the run chase moving steadily along to 36 before Wright fell for 23. Edwards (32), the hero with the ball strode to the crease, and set about establishing himself in the Geoff Boycott mould, however he was losing partners too regularly at the other end. The arrival of Amery (12) at the crease, signalled a mini-revival and when both fell in quick succession, the end was nigh. Cowen batted confidently for his 6, and when he fell last man in Laura Stapleton entertained the crowd with a couple of lofty shots ending unbeaten on 2. It was a 100 run win to Tavistock, enjoyed by all.
