FOR the second year in succession, Tavistock Athletic Club juniors won the Devon Sportshall Trophy in Dawlish after the fifth and final meeting of this winter series. This is no mean feat as all the big Devon clubs take part in this league. However, Tavistock held on to the top position despite a concerted effort from nearest rivals Exeter and North Devon in the last match. Up in North Devon meanwhile a massive contingent of seniors took part in the ever-popular Bideford Half Marathon. This race is always a focal point on Tavistock?s calendar with so many focusing their training towards the event, some as a milestone race in their preparation for the London Marathon in April. And that training paid off handsomely with some outstanding results. Steve Groombridge finished 12th, coming first in his M50 age group. It was a spectacular finish too with club mate Adam Holland finishing just one place and one second behind. Fiona Dunn continued to improve in leaps with a stunning 83rd position which saw her finish 2nd in the senior ladies category. In doing so she knocked off some 11 minutes from her previous personal best set last year.
