Bedford Cup Bere Alston United 1 Callington Town 2 THE football revolution at Callington continues to gather pace as, in sub zero temperatures at Tavistock?s Langsford Park on Wednesday (January 26), a mixture of Callington?s first, second and third teams produced another gutsy performance to see off an experienced United team to progress in the Bedford Cup. The new East Cornwall management team of Tim May and Stuart Cawte took charge of this game and it took time for the mix of new players from all three sides to gel together. Bere Alston were seasoned campaigners and it showed in the opening exchanges as they hustled their opponents before taking a 30th minute lead from the penalty spot through Robbie Hawkin after Matt Reid had handled. United?s lead only lasted five minutes though as at the end of a great move on the left, the ball found Chris Truscott who rifled it past the keeper to equalise. Early in the second period, Chris Gerry put Town ahead after a good run on the left and despite some nervy scares towards the end, Callington held firm and the final whistle was greeted with great cheers from the players and large travelling support. On Saturday Callington firsts take to Ginsters Marshfield Parc in the first home game since the upheaval when they entertain Penzance, who are equal on points but have played three games more in the Carlsberg South Western League. The seconds re-enter the league competition with a tough trip to Sticker who won 5-1 in the only league game to survive the weather on Saturday.
