TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Clubs ladies section take pride of place this week after they competed three games and won them all. Their match against Yealmpton saw them successful in both rinks played, with skip Hazel Lovell leading her squad to a 24-11 victory and skip Betty Browse and her team winning 16-14. The inter-club competition match against Exonia ended with a two shot victory for the Tavistock ladies, who now progress into the next round. In the county pairs competition Marion Allen and her partner Sue Silcox won four matches to reach the finals. The men?s section travelled to play the CSSA team in Plymouth and returned home having lost on all four rinks played. Skips results were: Vic Stacey 16-19, Malcolm Bloomer 11-26, Clive Jago 5-37, Mike Allen 11-24. The men?s Evening League team, travelled to face local neighbours Bere Alston and returned home having won 79-63. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Barry Chappell, Mike Felles and Mike Silcox won 22-14, whilst skip Clive Jago and his team of Norman Paramor, Des Saunders and Frank Welch won 19-14. Skip Vic Stacey and his crew of, Wallace Northey, Ernie Piper and Gordon Northey lost 12-22. Skip Mike Allen and his team of Brian Davies, Geoff Cork and George Blackburn won 26-13. Thursday saw a mixed team travel to face the clubs name sake, ?Plymouth Sir Francis Drake? in a mixed triples match which ended as a 123-100 victory for the home team after they won four of the six rinks played. Tavistock?s skips results were, Vic Stacey drew 18-18, Barry Chappell lost 16-17, Mike Allen lost 17-20, Norman Paramor lost 13-22, Ernie Piper won 25-17, and George Blackburn lost 11-29. The week ended with the Tavistock annual open tournament on Sunday, when 22 teams from Devon and Cornwall took part in the all day event. Teams came from as far apart as Veryan in Cornwall, Barnstaple and Paignton. The competition was won by Paignton, with Saltash second and Beacon Down third.
