Jackson Vending D & E Premier League
Sidmouth Town . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0
Okehampton Argyle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4
THIS started off much the same as last week with Okehampton taking a while to settle into a routine. Sidmouth had the better of the early play but some good defending mixed with a poor final ball kept the score level. Okehampton were denied a penalty after what looked like a foul on Adam Mortimer. After ten minutes, Daniel Pengelly, making his debut for the first team had the first real shot of note for Okehampton, the shot clearing the crossbar.
In the twenty-second minute a cross by Paul Yip found Stuart Cann, his shot was deflected into the path of Dan Pengelly, and in a crowded penalty area he got knocked down, but got up again and his touch found Adam to score his first of the day.
Four minutes later Adam nearly made it 2-0 after being put through by Paul Yip.
Adam made it 2-0 in the 37th minute following a solo run, he cut in from the left wing past four defenders and placed his shot into the far post. Minutes later Dan Pengelly had a header hit the crossbar.
Just before half time Sidmouth had their best chance to get back into the game but good defending meant it came to nothing.
Michael Vernon made it 3-0 in the fifty-fifth minute from a Daniel Johnston free-kick following a foul on Paul Yip. It was 4-0 after sixty-seven minutes when Adam scored his third. In the last twenty minutes Sidmouth tried their hardest to break down the resolute defence that Okehampton had put up throughout the game, the defence was lead admirably by Kevin Gill who along with Daniel Johnston, Michael Vernon and James Williams another player making his first team debut player.
James had a good season with the reserves last year and on this showing is going to make it hard to be left out of the plans of the first team.
His touch was assured, his passing was fairly accurate and his tackling was almost perfect, overall not a bad start.
This keeps on top of the league with 100% record. Last season Adam scored fifteen goals, so far this season he has hit the net twelve times. This is the bonus that we need as well as the strong defence that has always been there.
This week the team take on South Molton at home in the Devon Premier Cup. Kick-off is at 2.30pm, players to be at the clubhouse by 1.30pm.
