A HATHERLEIGH couple who sold their life?s possessions on national television when they featured on ITV?s ?Everything Must Go? programme, last week embarked on the journey of a lifetime. Jo and Roy Barrett sold off their unwanted clutter in front of the TV cameras to finance a long-held dream of a 12 month round-the-world trip. The couple left Hatherleigh last Sunday, hitting the open road with the freedom to explore. The couple are leaving their itinerary open-ended but will visit friends in France and Spain before travelling through Italy, Greece and Turkey. Jo said they were also hoping to visit Pakistan and India, and Nepal if possible. Before setting off, Jo said she was looking forward to the trip although it was difficult to know what to expect. ?My excitement is tinged with stress,? she said. Jo said she had really enjoyed taking part in the TV programme, which was filmed almost a year ago. ?It was a delight to do. The TV crew were so nice, they came at the crack of dawn, but we really enjoyed it,? she said. The couple raised more than a thousand pounds from the sale, allowing them to buy the vehicle which will serve as their home during their travels ? a 1986 Mercedes truck they have christened Alice. Jo, a freelance hairdresser, and Roy, an IT trainer, hope to come back and pick up where they left off in Hatherleigh, once their mammoth trip is over.
