A THREE-rider team from Okehampton Cycle Club consisting of Mike and Jacky Rice with Tony Johnston had success in last Sunday?s 15.6-mile sporting time trial hosted by St Budeaux Cycle Club, by taking the runner-up prize in the team competition.

Each team must include a lady or junior rider and the individual finishing times for the three riders are then added together.

The Okehampton trio with a combined time of 2.12.46 missed the top spot held by a team from Plymouth Corinthians CC by 32 seconds.

In the individual event Jacky Rice continued her rich vein of form by taking the prize for the fastest lady rider on the day with a time of 43.25.

The seventh event of the Okehampton Cycle Club summer time trial series took place last Thursday evening.

In blustery conditions with a strong headwind, seven competitors took part in a ride against the clock on the demanding 11.2 mile course from Mole Avon to Whiddon Down and back on the old A30.

Jacky Rice, debuting her new time trial bike, achieved the fastest time of the night with 33.00, fending off her male competitors including husband Mike Rice, who came second with 33.24. Third place went to Jon Short with 33.51.

Full results: J Rice 33.00; M Rice 33.24; J Short 33.51; A Crawford 34.13; B Sharp 35.02; D Baskerville 35.20; B Stevens 40.20.

Anyone is welcome to participate on a roadworthy bicycle. The meeting place is Mole Avon car park, on Thursday evenings, ready for a 7pm start.
