THE mixed teams of Okehampton Golf Club played the annual Dora Milner Trophy on Sunday. This is for drawn partners playing a foursomes medal competition. This year it was played in quite tricky conditions with wind and rain to contend with although the course was in excellent order. The cup was won by the Lady Captain Maureen Howe and her partner Nick Redman, scoring an excellent net 66-5. Pushing them closely were Dawn Phillott and her partner Bob Davies with net 67-5 and in third place was Chris Turner and Owen Howe net 74. There were only two 2s Bob Davies and Dawn Phillott and Rod Glanville and Maureen Willcocks. Saturday was a 3-2-1 stableford team competition. Division One was won, on the back 9, with 79 points by Malcolm Hill, Barry Coaker and Kevin Cornwall. Second Kevin Harkness, Graham Moysey and Malcolm Hooper also 79, third Richard Camies, Nick Godfrey and Lee Carey 76pts and fourth Steve Rice, Kevin Perryman and Sam Hill 75pts. Division Two was the best score of the day, with Paul Skidmore, Tim Schofield and Evan Rees with 80 points. Second Nick Penfold, John Flavin and Kevin Harding 78pts, third George James, Cherry James and Dan James 76pts and fourth Graham Starkey, Robin Webb and Den Jenkins 75pts. The Dartmoor League team were playing Dartmouth at home on Sunday, another excellent win was achieved. First out was Harry Hawkins and Simon Gibbon who halved their match, but Paul Rattenbury, Vice Captain of the club and leading the team, playing with Kevin Pedrick won 3-2, Darren Prouse and Keith Harkness won 4-3, Pete Murphy and Neil Penfold had a wonderful 6-5 win and Malcolm Hooper and Adam Cann won 4-2. This keeps Okehampton at the top of the league at the moment. The Ladies? League Team of Okehampton is also doing well this season. Their latest conquest was Torrington at home. Trish Vick had the hardest battle to halve her match. Lyn Hazelton won 5-3,Kay King (team captain) won 7-6, Kath Mansell won 4-3, Jane Warren won 7-5, Chris Stevens won 2 up and the reserve Mary Keir won 5-4. They have now played five out of the eight matches and have accumulated 52pts, this has surely put them towards the top of the league table. Wednesday saw the ladies playing their monthly qualifying medal, again the earlier rounds had the better weather. The Silver Division was won with an excellent net 68 by Marcia Jones, second Cherry James net 72, and third Dawn Phillott net 74. The Bronze Division was won with another wonderful net 68 by Sally Griffin, second Janet Hatch net 69 (back 9) from in third place Vice Captain Eileen Piper also net 69. Although there were no actual handicap reductions Sally came down point 5 and Marcia point 3. Three of Okehampton ladies played in the Crediton Open; Pam Jarman, Mary Keir and Lin Atkinson were in the lead until the last two teams came in, they were pipped for first place but hung on to come second.
