GUNNISLAKE Cricket Club, currently in the Tamar Cricket League, held its end of season presentation evening at the Tavistock Arms Hotel.
The event was well supported, with a mixture of both young and more mature players, their girlfriends and wives.
The evening was tinged with sadness following the death of Enid Getson, wife of Bryn, the club treasurer and stalwart groundsman. Enid had been a former 'tea lady' for many years and had supported the club behind the scenes in many other ways.
Kevin Veal, the club chairman, paid a tribute to her and this was followed by a minute's silence.
The presentations followed an excellent buffet, the main awards being: Players' player, Andy Astley; young player, Kevin Pethick; duck award, Mike Reeve.
Club captain Mike Reeve presented the 'tea ladies', Di Hugo, Bobby Reeve and Emma Astley with floral presents, as a 'thank you' for the excellent teas that they had prepared throughout the season.
Thanks were expressed to all of the individuals, companies and organisations that financially supported the club over the last year.
The annual meeting will be held on Saturday October 25, at the ground, starting at 9.45am. All players are asked to attend and new members are welcome. Contact Mike Hugo, secretary, on 01822 833927 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
