THE Triangle Centre in Tavistock has a new massage couch thanks to one of its therapists competing in a sponsored triathlon event. Nicky Deane-Simmons is a complementary therapist at the centre, which provides a drop in service for people diagnosed with cancer, their family and carers, and is linked to St Luke?s Hospice. Nicky decided to raise money for the couch by competing in the triathlon in London. It consisted of a 1500 metre swim in the Thames docks, a 40 kilometre cycle and a 10 kilometre run. She completed the event in three hours 15 minutes, finishing fifth in her age group. The couch has now been purchased, although not all the sponsorship money is in, and is in use. Complementary therapies are available at the centre free of charge to people who use the service, but appointments need to be pre-arranged. They include Reiki, aromatherapy, reflexology, homeopathy and hypnotherapy. The centre recently moved to the Health Centre in the town and is open every Friday from 10am to 4pm. Nicky thanked Lorna and Martin at Tavistock Cycles, who contributed towards the cost of the bicycle and kept her on the road through many punctures.
