TAVISTOCK triathletes Rupert Warren, Emer Scanlon, Liz and Robin Brew were in action last weekend at the Southshore sprint Triathlon in Bude. The annual race, which has been established since 1992, attracted 280 competitors from all over the country to compete in the 500m open water swim, 11 miles hilly bike course and then the three-mile town centre run. Rupert Warren, competing in his first race of the season, produced a great performance in the highly competitive over 40 category to finish in fourth place just some 30 seconds behind the winner. Emer Scanlon, Robin and Liz Brew were competing in the open relay team event. Emer completed the swim section in what was her first ever open water swim followed by a long run up the beach, produced a tremendous performance to place the team in the top five after the swim discipline. Emer handed over to Robin Brew to complete the hilly coastal bike section, who managed to overhaul the race leaders, the local RNLI team, just before the end of the cycle section. Robin handed over to Liz Brew for the run section who did a fantastic job holding off some of the strong male opposition to finish in an amazing second place overall. In addition, the team?s efforts were also rewarded by being announced as the winners of the over 40-relay team category.
