A WEST Devon-based children?s charity is to benefit from a Christmas tree sale at a national supermarket store in Tavistock this month. Nigel Nelson, who will be selling a variety of Christmas trees outside Safeway until Christmas Eve, last year donated a splendid £357 to the Molly Owen Centre in Tavistock following a successful Christmas tree sale. This year, he will be giving £1 for every tree sold to the Mary Budding Trust, which helps children with special educational needs. Nigel said: ?We wanted to continue the practice of giving to charity and we?ve opted for the Mary Budding Trust because of its focus on children, specifically in this area ? I can?t think of a more deserving charity at Christmas.? The Mary Budding Trust was the brainchild of the late Robin Fenner, a prominent town citizen, who lost his battle against cancer in October. Tony Waites, former headteacher of Tavistock Primary School and vice-chairman of the trust, said: ?I am absolutely delighted that Mr Nelson is prepared to donate some money to the trust, which helps children with severe difficulties and their families. ?Robin was always keen that it was open to young people under the age of eleven in West Devon ? it?s very much about local people helping other local people. ?It could be that we help provide simple equipment like ramps to make access easier, sometimes it?s things like respite care, or help with travel costs to Great Ormond Street.? Nigel Nelson?s Christmas trees will be available outside the main entrance to Safeway ? collecting boxes will also be available for donations to the Mary Budding Trust.
