WEST Devon?s Women?s Aid Helpline is celebrating its fourth birthday of ?going live?. The helpline received 178 phone calls during its first year, but now receives an average of 45 calls a month. October 2004 saw the highest number, with 92 being received. Since it started, the charity has dealt with more than 1,275 calls. To mark the fourth year, Okehampton mayor Tony Leech has been invited to plant a Tree of Hope a the base of the Millennium Wood, just over the Pig Bridge. The ceremony will take place at 2pm on Friday, March 18. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to meet in the Simmons Park car park at 1.30pm, to walk to the site together for the planting ceremony. Anyone wishing to speak to someone in confidence about abuse should ring the helpline between noon and 3pm, Monday to Friday, on 01837 55228.
