THE winners of a competition to design a logo for the spur routes of the new cycle trail between Plymouth and Tavistock ? Drake?s Trail ? have been presented with certificates for their hard work. Children from Meavy Primary School, Lady Modiford?s Primary School in Walkhampton and St Andrew?s Primary School in Buckland Monachorum all took part in the competition. Winners from the schools were announced last month by Phil Baker, Drake?s Trail project officer for West Devon Borough Council. and Susanne Martin, Drake?s Dartmoor project manager. The young artists were presented with a certificate and an Usborne book. Children from Meavy school painted pictures of Drake?s Leat, St Andrew?s school pupils on Buckland Abbey and Lopwell Dam, and pupils from Lady Modiford?s school of Burrator. Miss Martin said: ?Our expectations have not only been met, but outstripped by the children?s imaginative and original artworks. ?The youngsters have been very creative and found wonderful ways to capture the essence of such beautiful and interesting places.? The winners from each of the schools will be entered into the competition final at the beginning of next year.
