COUNCILLOR Brian Trew is wrong in stating that Devon County Council is 'once again discussing the idea of placing parking meters in Tavistock'.
No new pay and display schemes are being introduced.
I can confirm that the traffic order to which he refers does not introduce any new restrictions or charges anywhere in the county. It is simply to allow Devon County to introduce the facility to pay by phone at existing sites.
This is an administrative process to tidy up the existing Order and facilitate the introduction of 'RingGo' pay by phone parking across the County. (Tavistock has this facility in operation already for off street parking).
Tavistock Chamber of Commerce chairman Nigel Eadie is keen to promote this venture and has requested advertising stickers be placed in local shops.
Cllr Trew's notion that 'They (DCC) clearly decided, perhaps in smoked filled rooms' is really off the mark.
I think that anyone who works with me knows I am open, honest and inclusive.
I give all town councillors a written update relating to county issues and this update includes parking.
All town councillors are aware that there will be a 'round table' meeting which will discuss issues including: residential, commercial, on street, off street and access to blue light services.
Readers must be assured that the county's cabinet has listened to residents, the town council and me.
The county council is not going back on any decisions, but is taking a comprehensive look at the local situation relating to traffic management and parking.
Cllr Debo Sellis
Devon County Council
