A WEST Devon local council stands to lose its ?Quality? accreditation, following the resignation of one of its members. Tavistock Town Council was given the accolade of a ?Quality Council? some time ago. But it may lose the title if another member does not join the authority. Cllr Isla McPhie has resigned her seat for the town?s North Ward, although she is continuing to serve on West Devon Borough Council. The vacancy has been advertised ? a by-election will be held if ten or more town electors request one. If a by-election does not take place the council can co-opt a new member ? or it may decide to continue running with 16 members instead of 17. If this happens, it will lose its ?Quality? status, as it does not have a full membership. Residents have one more week in which to request a by-election takes place.
