THE 2007 swimming season began for Tavistock Swimming Club when they hosted a friendly gala and invited Devonport Royal and Exmouth Swimming Clubs. The home team may not have won, but several of Tavistock's younger, relatively inexperienced swimmers took part, many facing competition for the first time. They rose to the challenge, which resulted in an abundance of personal best times. First places went to the girls 15/O medley relay (Laura Radgick, Kirsty Best, Catriona Smith and Laura Aspen) and to individual swimmers Lily Edwards in the girls 10/U backstroke in a personal best time, Josh Stephens in the boys U14 backstroke and Sam Harmsworth in the boys U14 freestyle. Kirsty Best won the girls 15/O breaststroke, Michael Best the boys 15/O breaststroke, Laura Radgick the girls 15/O freestyle and Catriona Smith won both the girls 14/U and 15/O butterfly events. Those taking part (with number of personal best times in brackets) were Tom Waddington (3), Jonathan Evans (2), Pete Jarman (2), Issy Stanswood (2), Alice Adams (1), Emily Adams (1), Matthew Adams (1), Gavin Ball (1), Kirsty Best (1), Michael Best (1), Holly Brimble (1), Will Carter (1), Harriet Edwards (1), Lily Edwards (1), Chloe Greep (1) Martin Greep (1), Ryan Greep (1), Sam Harmsworth (1), Harry Monks (1), Laura Radgick (1), Nathaniel Rookes (1), Catriona Smith (1), Josh Stephens (1), Katie Stephens (1), Harry Thompson (1), Ross Williams (1), Laura Aspen, Mabel Barclay, Beth Benyon, Abby Best, Kris Chapman, Matt Edwards, Kirsty Smith, Elizabeth Teague and Amy Warnett. l TAVISTOCK Swimming Club took in the recent Devon County inter club championships at Central Park, Plymouth when they finished in a respectable tenth place overall. Third places went to Sam Harmsworth in the boys U13 50m freestyle and to Pete Freedman in both the men's open 100m backstroke and butterfly.
