A MAJOR contemporary arts market which embodies the work of the recently launched Devon Artsculture will be held in Tavistock this month. Visitors to the town hall on March 31 will be able to enjoy the work of a number of leading contemporary visual artists and there will be the opportunity to buy the work on show. Throughout the day there will be performances by local musicians, performance artists and DJs who are registered with the project. Projects officer Eleanor Butland said it was important for Devon Artsculture to ?make real? what it is offering to the creative sector. She said: ?Individual practitioners have specific needs and our day in Tavistock will illustrate the many ways in which Devon Artsculture can help, as well as highlighting the quality of the creative practitioners in our area, the types of support that we will provide, the network of agencies that we will be working with and the sorts of events we are planning.? Devon Artsculture was set up two months ago to provide business support and development for creative practitioners. Since its launch, the European-funded Objective 2 project has already proved its worth to the creative communities of West Devon, Torridge, the South Hams and North Devon. It has set up a youth mentoring scheme for talented visual artists and musicians and is currently working on a range of live performances and exhibition opportunities for local creative practitioners. A number of local funding and support organisations who have links with Devon Artsculture, and who offer additional services to benefit the creative sector, will be on hand at the market to offer advice to visitors and artists. The Arts Market will be open to the public from noon to 6pm. For further information call 01803 847016 or visit http://www.devonartsculture.co.uk">www.devonartsculture.co.uk
