Tamar League Ordulph Taverners v Tavistock Third XI WITH potential thunderstorms at Brentor looming Tavistock were struck by a more earthly power, this one a cricketing one, in the shape of Ordulph?s Jude Rotten. This was always going to be something of a mismatch with Ordulph sailing high near the top of the A Division and Tavistock languishing at the bottom of the B Division. Tavistock batted first and despite spirited aggression found the swinging ball combined with the accuracy of Ordulph?s Pete Cooper (0-15), Neil Folley (2-17), and Matt Mills (2-12) too much to cope with. But it was Jude Rotten who devastated the Tavistock innings with figures of 6-15, in a controlled seven over spell of swing bowling of the highest order. Highlight of the fielding was Johnny Lethbridge while the most unfortunate one was the sight of keeper Pete Crowl and Neil Folley sickeningly colliding going for the same catch. Commendably Folley held on to the ball to dismiss former Ordulph man Dot Baskerville who was threatening to break loose with the bat. A spirited 24 from Matt Ford enabled Tavistock to reach 61 all out. This score could well have been greater if not for a tendency from the young Tavistock order to lose patience and throw their wickets away with some ill judged shot selections. In reply Ordulph opened with Doc Finnigan and Jude Rotten, with Rotten taking the dominant role ably supported by Finnigan. They knocked the runs off in 13 overs with Rotten finishing on 39 not out to secure a much deserved man of the match award.
