AT the Devon under 13 Rugby Sevens Knockout Tournament hosted by Brixham a spirited squad captained by Frazer Bayliss entered one of the most competitive pools. The early win for Tavistock against Exmouth by 14- 12 on a try conversion difference saw the team grow in confidence and began passing the ball across the entire width, putting in with some hard tackles and swiftly executing turnovers . Undeterred by the defeat at the hands of eventual cup winners Sidmouth by 7-21, Tavistock went on to beat hosts Brixham 33-7. The final pool game was against old rivals, Ivybridge, but Tavistock maintained its form and demonstrated its fitness and stamina in a high paced game to win 14-7. In the plate semi-final undeterred by the size of the larger Devonport Services lads, Tavistock used its mobility and attacking mode to find spaces in the defence with Jake Johns on the wing in class form running in two tries from the halfway. Sam Northmore proved unstoppable with both strength and speed in the quest to increase the scores and Tavistock cruised through by 28-0. In the plate final the desire to win pumped adrenelin into the Tavistock squad who showed no signs of tiring but it was Sam Northmore's two tries from the halfway which are to be the lasting memories of this final. To Topsham's credit they pushed to the end but Tavistock triumphed 12-7.
