Carlsberg South Western League
Callington 1
Tavistock 2
THE Lambs introduced new signings Wayne Tregenza and Simon Parnell from Liskeard and Torpoint respectively to the starting line-up for this local derby.
The Lambs took control of the first half and went in just one goal to the good at halftime. Appeals for a penalty in the 13th minute by the visitors went unheeded after Lee Beer went tumbling in the area but two minutes later there was no doubt when Steve Daymond was sent crashing after being put through on goal. Andy Parnowski made no mistake from the spot kick.
Beer, Daymond and Jason Carwardine all saw efforts go straight at Callington keeper Andy Brenton with the Lambs keeper Andy Meeds tipping over a great effort from Barwell five minutes before the interval.
The Lambs increased their lead ten minutes into the second half when Craig Hodge was caught late after sending Parnell down the wing. James Cole's free kick found Parnell at the far post to turn it back across goal for Darren Babb to turn it over the line despite valiant efforts from the Callington defence to clear it.
Daymond shot at the keeper and Cole saw his effort flash past the far post before the home side gave themselves some hope with 20 minutes left. The ball fell kindly for Simon Wilson 35 yards out and without hesitation he sent it over a stranded and helpless Meeds into the roof of the net.
Callington continued to press for an equaliser but the Lambs defence held firm to record a deserved victory.
P & D Comb George Gillan Trophy
Tavistock 1
Prince Rock 1
(aet. Tavistock won 3-2 on penalties)
THE Lambs got off to a lively start and took the lead after 18 minutes when Richard Hoskin sent Darren Smalley away down the wing. His short pass inside found Carwardine who sent it across goal for James Yates to stroke home.
The Rockies drew level seven minutes later. Tavistock's keeper Pete Daniel came rushing off his line to clash with an attacker. The referee pointed to the spot for holding by the keeper and Daley Glanfield made no mistake.
Daniels tipped over a shot at the start of the second half and Hawkins had a goalbound shot blocked. Brimacombe and Lee West saw efforts go straight at the keeper. The Lambs were fortunate to remain level when Daniels saved from Lee Chapman and as the ball fell for him again the ex-Lambs player saw his shot sail just over the bar.
Into extra time and again Daniels kept the Lambs in it with a tip over. The second period saw efforts from Jason Clancy and sub Martin Traber go straight at the keeper and so the scores remained level to take the game into a penalty shoot out.
Up stepped Kirkup to see his spot kick saved. Paul Knight replied in kind to send his shot wide of the post. Brimacombe put the Lambs one up then Daniels saved Lee Cane's shot. Steve Nicholson had the chance to put the Lambs two up but shot over the bar and the Rockies drew level with Kim Jenkins' effort.
Hawkins restored the Lambs' lead with a cheeky chip over the keeper before Mike Morrin made it 2-2 after four attempts.
Steve Trebilcock made it 3-2 and when Shane Ardis blasted over the bar it sent the Lambs into the next round.
