A 'DROP-in' open afternoon for Tavistock residents to have their say about parking issues in the town was a great success last week, with more than 400 people attending.
Devon County Council's member for Tavistock, Debo Sellis, who organised the Tavistock Traffic Management and Parking Public Consultation day in the town hall, said she was delighted at the response to the event.
'It went very, very well,' said Cllr Sellis. 'There was a constant stream of people coming in, the hall was never empty, and the town crier played a blinder outside, publicising it.
'It was an opportunity for people to vent their spleen, so to speak. Naturally there were a lot from Bannawell Street, who would like to see a residents' parking scheme, and from Tiddybrook, but lots came in and were just very positive about being able to have their say.'
Cllr Sellis said it was estimated that between 400 and 500 people visited the hall during the afternoon.
'The Bannawell Street residents are very concerned about residents' parking, which we know about, and we are looking into it, but the problem is, you can't have one without having on-street parking meters,' said Cllr Sellis.
'It's something that clearly we will be looking at but this is a democratic process and there's a lot to consider.
'The Tiddybrook residents had some very good photographs which showed how people are parking their cars on the estate and leaving them to go off on the cycle trail, so we will be looking into that.'
Cllr Sellis said there may be some 'quick fixes' for some of the problems aired at the event and some issues would take much longer, but that the consultation day had been 'very worthwhile'.
