DJM U16s Howe League
Manstow 7
Tavistock Town 4
TAVISTOCK started well with early goals from Sam Turner and Charlie Gale, but after some mediocre defending found themselves 3-2 down.
However, Sam Turner equalised with a fierce shot to make it even at the break. Tavistock were looking to tighten up defensively in order to secure a win that their attacking play deserved. Things seemed to be going to plan as Matt McClung put them 4-3 up just after the restart.
At this stage with the outstanding Peter Page controlling the midfield, it looked as though they would shut out their opponents and get the points. However, Manstow had other ideas, and with the aid of some woeful defensive play from the visitors, they were able to score a further four goals without reply to give them a convincing, if rather flattering, victory.
Devon County U16s cup
Elm United 1
Tavistock Town 6
A hat-trick each for Sam Turner and Matt McLung gave Tavistock a convincing passage through to the quarter finals of the Devon County Cup.
Matt Mclung scored the first two goals as Tavistock, playing some expansive football, dominated the early exchanges.
Sam Turner added a third with what was the best goal of the game. The move started with Matt White's pass to Brad Crack who played a ball into midfield to find Josh Midson Holmes. He swept it wide to Crack who had continued his run on the left. Crack's left footed cross was met by Sam Turner who headed into the top corner of the net.
Matt McLung added a fourth which gave him a deserved hat-trick, soon to be followed by Sam Turner's second which made the score 5-0.
The home side scored a consolation goal before Turner completed his hat-trick which rounded off an impressive performance from the side. Peter Page was again in fantastic form in midfield. Ryan Northam gave an assured performance in goal defended well by a back four of Matt Heard, Tommy Cole, Matt White and Brad Crack.
