TAVISTOCK Swimming Club's 'older' swimmers had their chance to prove their mettle at the Devon County Senior and Masters swimming championships held at Pyramids Swimming and Leisure Centre, Exeter.
The swimmers gained several personal best times and medals along the way. This was an inspiring event for the club swimmers, many of them attending for the first time, with competitive participants from all over Devon ranging in age from 15 to 85.
In the 15/16 years age group, Nathaniel Rookes (15) won gold medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke, with silver medals in both the 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley. Holly Brimble, 15, earned a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke.
In the 17/18 years age group, Ross Williams (18) brought home three medals – gold in the 100m butterfly, silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 50m freestyle.
The club was represented by three swimmers in the 18-24 age group. There were three gold medals for Gareth Williams (24) in the 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle. Michael Best (20) won a gold in the 100m breaststroke and a silver in the 50m breaststroke. Jason Butler (20) collected a gold medal in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Chris Anderson (57), swimming in the 55-59 years age group, took part in four races and brought home a clean sweep of gold medals – 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
