WE do not have a business background but understand the need for Tavistock to move forward in order to survive, However, we read the headline news in last week's paper with a sense of unease.

If Tavistock is accepted as a Portas Pilot we hope that, in pursuit of this 'ideal', it will be able to retain its uniqueness and not be stripped of the very character and soul that draws so many people to live and visit.

To be a Portas Pilot will, no doubt, have its price — and being one of twelve could still mean being a clone of elsewhere.
