Tavistock Ladies 4
Plymouth University ladies 6
TAVISTOCK suffered their first defeat of the season to an energetic Plymouth University side. From the start the away side applied the pressure and the home side found themselves hemmed in their half of the pitch.
The University moved the ball around well and slick passing made life difficult for the Tavistock defence. The home side had to defend a succession of penalty corners but good defending kept the ball out.
Tavistock though slowly got into their stride and were also awarded some penalty corners and it was from one of these that Armstrong got the first goal. The away side however soon levelled the score.
The play was end to end with the midfield of Armstrong, Stapleton and White feeding the ball to the forwards. Strong defending by the away side stopped any shots on goal.
Armstrong got her second goal from open play and the half ended with the home side a goal up.
Tavistock were going to have to work harder on their passing and possession of the ball if they were going to hold the lead. Plymouth came out strongly and continued with their skilful passing game and soon levelled.
Not long after, following some quality running on the left wing, Killingbeck was rewarded with a well taken goal.
Poor marking by Tavistock allowed the University plenty of chances to shoot on goal, with keeper Viggars working hard.
However, the University scored twice from penalty corners with strikes that beat both Viggers and Boulle defending the goal mouth.
The home side just could not get through the University players and seemed to lack the determination to take the game back.
McClumpha had some good runs on the right for Tavistock but her crosses were not converted into goals. Mills-Hicks came on as centre forward for the injured Gaspar and despite usually playing at the back, played well with sharp tackling and as a result put away the home side's fourth goal.
The home side lifted their game but the Plymouth ladies' attacks did not let up and Tavistock were finding it more difficult to keep them out of their 'D'.
Within the last ten minutes the away side were again awarded penalty corners which the home side failed to clear resulting in another two goals going to the visitors.
