TAVISTOCK Hockey Club are entering an exciting new phase in their long and distinguished history.
Founded back in the 1950s with just the one team, the club now supports five full adult sides.
With three men's teams carefully staged through the leagues to allow for player progression, the first XI play at the high standard of South division one and compete against some top teams across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Captain Carl Jeffery is looking forward to the start of the season and says 'the season is always a good challenge, with the quality of the clubs in the league but above all enjoyable.'
The ladies' side of the club have developed and progressed enormously over the recent seasons. Under the captaincy of Fiona Dunn, the side has moved through the leagues in progressive seasons and now play in premier two West, against some first class sides such as Chippenham and Bath and Bucc's.
Fiona Dunn said that the 'team are looking forward to a challenging season and are excited about playing sides previously unknown to Tavistock.'
Tavistock have worked hard over the years to create the structure within the club that now exists and supports the playing members. Having recently sold their old grass pitch, the club are investing in the future of hockey in the area and look to develop a greater youth side to the club. Using the funds to invest in a new and exciting bespoke kit, for both home and away fixtures this season, could lead to Tavistock looking to be one of the best-dressed sides in the area.
An attractive membership package is also on offer to existing members and any new players that join the club.
Training starts for the whole club on Thursday, September 4, at 7.30pm on the Kelly College Astro, with junior training starting on Sunday, September 7.
