Plymouth Albion girls U18s 12

Tavistock girls U18s 19

IN a bruising encounter Plymouth Albion came back strongly to make this a tight game but in the end Tavistock U18s deserved their victory.

Tavistock got off to a bright start and were 14 points up in the first 10 minutes after a tries by Frankie Rickard and Beth Neave, who broke through to round the Plymouth defence to each score under the posts. Fiona McCall converted both.

Beth Neave again scampered past the defence to score for Tavistock wide out on the right. However, a series of penalties against Tavistock, and a further penalty ten metres from the line gave Plymouth the opportunity to bundle over a try to make it 19-5 to Tavistock at half time.

In the second half Plymouth came back strongly keeping the ball tight. After a series of penalties for infringements in the scrum, Plymouth battled to within the Tavistock 22.

A further penalty was awarded five metres out from the line. When the ball was not grounded a penalty try was awarded for players not all being behind the try line for the previous penalty. The kick from the centre of the pitch was converted to make it 19-12 with 10 minutes to play.

By determined defence Tavistock held the Plymouth attack until the final whistle.

There were some exceptional performances from Alex Smith, Rosie Tidball and Jo Abel.

The game was won in the end by stout Tavistock defence and good tackling by the whole team. Fiona McCall, Kerry Walke and Beth Neave all stood firm under pressure while Lauren Chenoweth led the way with her fearless defence.

Frankie Rickard was player of the match for the Tavistock team.
