TAVISTOCK Cricket Club entertained the Tamar Cavaliers for the Gazette Cup, first played for in 1980. Tamar won the toss and batted. Gliddon and Munday opened for Tavistock with veteran Munday taking a catch and bowl off Mansfield, Munday as tight as usual, giving away just four off his six overs. Simpson was introduced into the attack, and proceeded to clean bowl three Tamar players. Tom Rodgers kept their score going but was eventually out for 38. The rest of their score was made up of extras and five players not quite making double figures. After tea, Tavistock made a smart start with 14 year old Shaun Cleeve scoring particularly well. S Gliddon and Kaminski both batted well until reaching the required number of runs with nine overs to spare. Tavistock?s vice-chairman performed the role of man of the match adjudicator in place of Jack Davey who was unable to attend, and deservedly awarded the trophy to U15 player Shaun Cleeve whose 64 easily won the prize. The event ended with Times Gazette general manager Lyn Roberts presenting the trophy to Tavistock captain Stuart Munday, pictured right. Picture by James Bird
