THE trustees of Okehampton United Charity met at Okehampton College last week and received a presentation from the Museum of Dartmoor Life.

They went on to award a grant of £10,000 to the Museum of Dartmoor Life to contribute to the annual running costs. A further five group applications were then considered.

The trustees agreed to award grants of £13,000 to Wren Music to support the Okehampton programme of events and £400 to the West Devon Community and Voluntary Services to contribute to the training of marshals in Okehampton.

Tor Support Services received a grant of £7,500 to fund additional sessions and the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team were awarded a grant of £6,000 to match-fund another grant for new equipment.

The Northmoor Mothers' Union were awarded a grant of £250 to contribute to the group's forthcoming speakers.

One art achievement award was granted to support a young person in ballet and three sporting achievement grants were awarded to support young sportspeople in football, basketball and Muay Thai kick boxing.

Trustees of Okehampton Educational Foundation, who also met last week, noted Okehampton College's current allocation was £41,326 and a further £8,115 to Okehampton Primary School.

The trustees received applications for post-16 individual grants for the academic year 2013/14 which will be considered at the meeting on the September 25,
