Totnes U12s 0
Tavistock U12s 42
TAVISTOCK travelled to windy Totnes for a fixture against new opposition on the back of a recent fine run of form.
The tight early encounters were closely fought with the home pack matching the Tavistock forwards both in the loose and in the scrum.
The visitors however started to get on top with clean ball coming from the rucks and mauls and good link up play and flowing passing along the back line.
Despite this the home side defended well and Tavistock were held up short of the line on a number of occasions until Will Slater eventually broke the deadlock with a fine burst from a good move involving the forwards and backs.
A second try followed soon afterwards with Charlie Carter on hand to power over from a clever switch pass move involving outside half Tom Jackman. Although 14-0 up Tavistock still had to defend well to hold onto their lead until half time as the home side increased the pressure and tried to capitalise on greater possession from set pieces.
There were some fine defensive efforts in this period with Barney Megicks at full back in particular dealing really well with the high kicks and running back well to set up counter attacks.
Tavistock started the second half with determination to increase their lead and from a line out close to the Totnes line it was Charlie Charlton who continued his recent try scoring sequence with another touchdown for the visitors.
The strength of the Tavistock pack, especially the strong running of Brinkhurst and Smith, and the good handling of Lloyd-Graham and Piper in loose play now came to the fore and Totnes found it increasingly more difficult.
Adam Williams at scrum half led the back line well and made the ball available for the three-quarters including Perring, Dobie and Brown to display their speed and power on a number of occasions. This led to a further try for Charlie Carter who took advantage of a great break from his own half by Daniel Dobie, and good link up play with the forwards. In the latter stages further tries came for Tavistock from Charlie Carter who completed his hat-trick and Charlie Charlton who got his second touchdown of the match. In all Tavistock scored six tries without response with Brinkhurst converting four and Jackman another to make the final score 42-0 for the visitors.
This was another excellent team effort from Tavistock U12s who performed well as a unit both in attack and defence against strong opposition away from home.
