Devon Junior Minor U13 Hermes division Railway Beacon U13s 2 Tavistock Town U13s 4 TAVISTOCK travelled to Devonport keen to regain their position at the top of the league from Railway Beacon who were three points clear having played a game more. Typical of a top of the table clash the early exchanges were tentative with few chances being created. Railway had the slight advantage with possession, but created nothing to trouble stand-in Town goalkeeper Eaton. Gradually the Tavistock midfield of Northmore and Moorhead began to dominate and force the play with Hoar and Quick providing the width to keep the Railway back four busy. The visitors began to create a number of chances and forwards Hicks and Blatchford were coming more into the game. Tavistock took the lead midway through the first half when the Railway keeper could only parry a Hicks shot from the edge of the box and Quick was on hand to volley home the rebound. The rest of the half was played in driving rain which made the conditions all the more challenging. The second half started with a bang for Tavistock as they extended their lead within a minute of the restart when Moorhead finished off a fine move. Railway were not beaten however and continued to press and they pulled a goal back when a shot from the edge of the box slipped under Eaton in the Tavistock goal. Undeterred Tavistock continued to push forward at every opportunity and this approach was rewarded when another fine move was well finished by Blatchford to put Tavistock 3-1 up. As all the players started to tire in the heavy conditions there were further chances at both ends and with ten minutes to go Railway ensured it would be a tight finish when they pulled a goal back after some hesitation in the Tavistock defence. Railway pushed on for the equaliser, but Panter, Rosser-Lewis, Hosking, Raw and McClung all held firm. Tavistock finally sealed the victory, and top spot in the division, with the last kick of the game with a fine finish from Moorhead. l Next Saturday Tavistock travel to fourth placed Plymstock in the league and on Sunday travel to Uplyme to play in the quarter final of the Devon FA Tesco U13s Cup.
