PLANS for Okehampton's new community hospital were unanimously supported by members of the town council's planning committee this week.
Exeter and District Community Health Trust has applied for detailed planning permission to build the hospital on land at North Road Link, Okehampton.
Outline permission was granted in August last year and members of West Devon Borough Council's planning committee will discuss the proposal again at their meeting on March 13.
The 26-bed hospital, designed by Nigel Grainge Associates of Exeter, will replace Okehampton District and Okehampton Castle Hospitals and its layout and state-of-the-art equipment is expected to set an example to hospitals throughout the UK.
The hospital appeal to raise £250,000 towards new equipment currently stands at over £100,000.
