THE annual spring concert given by the Okehampton Choral Society takes place at Fairplace Church, Okehampton on Saturday at 7.30pm. This year the main work will be Brahms' Requiem. In the first half of the concert there will be shorter pieces includiing Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate for soprano and orchestra. The Choral Society welcomes back Katherine Bond from London as soprano soloist as well as local bass soloist Roger Cleverdon. The orchestra, which is larger than usual, is made up of visiting soloists and will be led by Paul Matthews. The organist is Philip Davey from Truro. John Holland, the conductor, said: 'The Brahms Requiem is a towering piece of music and a very big sing — we have certainly found it challenging but very inspiring at the same time. There are many awesome moments and we really look forward to singing it with the orchestra.' Tickets are available from The Beanfeast in the Arcade, price £6 (£3 for students).
