OKEHAMPTON U14s hosted a seven-a-side tournament for the ?Tamar Challenge Shields?, kindly donated by Richard Tidball Insurance from Hatherleigh, with Barnstaple, Launceston, Bude and hosts Okehampton playing a side in the A and B leagues. Okehampton A team first played Launceston in a fairly close game which Okehampton won 5-0. Next up were Bude who had no answer to Okehampton?s pace and ball handling. Okehampton won 38-0. Barnstaple also struggled as Okehampton were now playing superb sevens rugby, winning 29-0, to win the A Shield without conceding a single point in the three games. The B league first took on Launceston in a tight game which Launceston won close to full-time 7-10. Next were Bude whom Okehampton beat 24-12 playing some good sevens rugby. Then Barnstaple, with an 11-man squad which they used well against Okehampton?s 7-man squad and tired legs, with Barnstaple winning 40-5. Launceston won all their games and the B Shield, Barnstaple runners-up over Okehampton on tries scored.
