Okehampton Ladies Hockey Club rounded off their season by going 'On Tour' last weekend. A squad comprising both first and second team players travelled to Dawlish to participate in their annual tournament. The squad played four matches, winning three of them against Dawlish, Newton Abbott and Lodway (Bristol) but losing to the eventual tournament winners Totnes. After camping overnight at Dawlish Warren the squad travelled to Ottery St Mary to play Honiton ladies. Despite suffering from aching limbs and lack of sleep, the Okehampton team played with determination. Honiton scored two quick goals in the first half but Okehampton retaliated in the second half when Abi Colton and Jennie Humphry traded their usual defensive positions for attacking forwards. They linked well with centre half Sarah Jones and their supportive team play was rewarded with two well taken goals for Colton and an unfortunately disallowed goal for Humphrys. Honiton piled on the pressure towards the end of the match, netting two more goals to become the victorious team. Okehampton Ladies now have a break from hockey but training begins on Wednesday evenings in early August. The club welcome any new players — for further details ring Jane Jones on 01837 810167.
