North Tawton RFC 3

Old Technicians RFC 29

AFTER last week?s convincing win against South Molton, North Tawton were back on duty in the league.

North Tawton were caught cold when the Plymouth side opened briskly, spun the ball wide and put winger Mark Young over for their first try in the first minute.

North Tawton came back strongly and put pressure on the visitors? line, but failed to turn it into points.

Old Techs began to take the game to North Tawton and it was only good defence by forwards and backs that held the visitors out.

Unfortunately, on the stroke of half-time the defence finally cracked and again it was winger Mark Young who got the final touch to leave the score at the break 12-0 to the visitors.

North Tawton?s spirit never lets them down and despite their position in the league they are not an easy side to beat, especially prop Martin Lane who is having a successful season, both in the set and loose play.

But a push over try by Old Tech?s pack within ten minutes of the second half saw the game slowly go out of North Tawton?s reach.

This was followed by a Plymouth back row move that saw Gary Murray press for the North Tawton line and get the touch down.

North Tawton came back with some good forward play led by back row?s Nigel Denis and Kevin Avery, and in the backs by Andy Pooly and Eddy Dawe in the centre and were rewarded with a penalty which outside half Joe Fewings dutifully kicked.

But a breakaway try in the final moments by the visitors made a final scoreline that was a little flattering to them.

Another determined game by North Tawton showing any team they will always get a good game home or away.

l North Tawton meet Bideford Thirds away this Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
