BARNSTAPLE were the strongest team taken on by Tavistock this season, having only lost once. Despite this, Tavistock took them on up front and many personal battles were won.
The visiting backs soon realised the Tavistock defence were not defending as a unit and quick, thoughtful distribution found enough gaps for their eight tries. This would have been more but for the strong tackling of Vanstone, Smerdon, Braithewaite and Bolt.
Lobban?s cover tackling stood out and saved two tries. Child at scrum half nipped several moves in the bud with his disruptive presence at the base of the scrum. Branfield hooked well and was usually one of the first to the breakdown, alongside Wheatley who tackled aggressively. Rowe slotted the home side?s only points with a well struck penalty.
Good lineout ball from Lawson and Wadland gave Tavistock opportunities to press for a score but it was not to be.
