St Agnes 6
Tavistock 0
TAVISTOCK ladies' hockey team knew this was going to be a tough match as the squad was down to ten players and more than half of those were new to the team.
Tavistock started with a strong defensive field but St Agnes were quick to discover the gap through not having a full team and put three goals away in the first 20 minutes.
Fiona Dunn and Sandra Collar worked hard at the back to cover every angle as St Agnes seemed to break through the midfield without too much trouble.
Emma Bowden and Becky Hutton rose to the challenge of the opposition and although St Agnes scored twice more before half-time, making it 5-0 these goals were not as easily achieved.
An encouraging team talk at half-time turned the second half of the match in Tavistock's favour. Despite not scoring, Tavistock played better and only allowed one goal to be scored. Sue Cork and Kerry Sloman showed great determination.
Tavistock were disappointed at the result but can learn from their mistakes in endeavouring to make the next match a victory.
Player of the match: Sue Cork.
Tavistock are away on Saturday October 20 to Bodmin in a friendly at Lux Park, Liskeard.
Any new players interested in playing for the club can attend training at Kelly College on Thursday from 7.30pm-9pm or contact Phil Honey on (01822) 610032.
Tavistock Ladies II 5
Plymouth University II 0
PLAYED on Sunday in strong winds and torrential rain, the match saw both teams in good spirit.
Plymouth won the toss but rarely ventured into their attacking half. The Tavistock midfield defence continually fed their forwards. The first goal was scored by Sarah Creates, following good passing play by Tavistock.
Sarah scored a second having made a run on her own, passing the Plymouth defence and slotting the ball past the goal keeper. Sue Gawman was also on good form and having set up some good scoring chances made it three to Tavistock before half-time.
In the second half Plymouth came back strongly but Tavistock held firm. Tavistock continued with their attacking play giving Gawman and Creates openings to score another goal apiece.
Tavistock goalkeeper Ros Watts stood for over an hour in the rain without having to defend her goal.
