CONSERVATIVE leader Michael Howard will be in Tavistock tomorrow (Friday) as part of a tour of the county.
Mr Howard, accompanied by West Devon and Torridge?s prospective Tory candidate Geoffrey Cox, will stay overnight in the Tavistock area before meeting police, shoppers and traders in the town?s pannier market on Friday morning.
Mr Cox described the party leader?s visit as ?a real boost? for local Conservatives in the run-up to a general election expected next year.
He said: ?He recognises that constituencies like ours in the South West have been seriously neglected by Labour and have punched far beneath their weight while represented by Liberal Democrats.
?As a result, once again, West Devon is faced by a financial crisis next year that could produce yet another soaring council tax rise.?
West Devon and Torridge is held by Liberal Democrat John Burnett who had a majority of 1,194 at the 2001 general election. He is not seeking re-election.
