SURPRISED student Rebecca Ewen was the envy of her classmates at Okehampton College on Monday, when she was presented with a brand new Army mountain bike. Year nine student Rebecca was surprised with her bike during the end of term assembly on Monday. Rebecca won her prize, generously donated by the Army, in a special draw when she visited the REME stand at the Imagineering Fair at the Royal Bath and West Show at Shepton Mallet last month with the rest of her classmates. In front of fellow students, Rebecca was given the bike by Warrant Officer Class 1 Iain Quince of 6 Battalion Regimental Recruiting Team REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) based at Tidworth in Hants. Rebecca, 14, from Okehampton said it had been a ?complete surprise? to be awarded the bike in assembly in front of all her friends, but she was very pleased with the prize. The annual Imagineering Fair is designed to introduce young people to the world of engineering, where they could learn how things are designed, how they are made and how they work. The REME recruitment team have supported Imagineering since it was founded in 2000 by a group of engineers in the Midlands. WO1 Quance said: ?The British Army has to bring new people in. We work alongside Imagineering; going to shows around the country and also getting involved with imagineering clubs at schools which introduce practical, hands-on engineering experience for young people.?
