THE concert piano at the community centre in Hatherleigh will come into its own on Saturday May 12 when Alasdair Beatson performs at the third in the spring series of 'Four Concerts in the West'. Alasdair is yet another find of Catherine Hodgson — of London Handel Festival fame — though it would not have been a difficult search. His abilities on the piano have brought him to the esteemed pages of the national dailies — the Sunday Times described him as 'artistry incarnate' and the Independent as 'an artist of exceptional talent and confidence'. He has given live broadcasts and recordings for BBC Radio and has played at the Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, the Purcell Room at the Royal Festival Hall, and the Martinu Centre in Prague. He won the prize at the Shanghai International Piano Competition and the Dorothy and Phillip Green Award, and has had master classes with John Lill, Murray Perahia, and Alicia de Laroccha. His own chamber group won the 2006 Royal Overseas League Ensemble Prize. At the community centre at Hatherleigh his programme will include works by Debussy, Beethoven, Alban Berg, Aaron Copland, Schubert and Schumann. The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets on the door at Hatherleigh Community Centre or in advance from the Salar Gallery Hatherleigh (01837 810940).
