STAFF at Dimson Day Nursery are celebrating a successful inspection by Ofsted officials.

The inspectors found no significant weaknesses in the educational programme at the nursery with children likely to achieve desirable standards in all six areas of learning.

The report stated: 'Teaching and assessment are good. Children are taught in small groups which are age and ability rated — this enables staff to target different levels of ability successfully and give individual attention as required.'

Inspectors found the programmes for maths, language, literacy, physical and creative development were good, with many children becoming fluent readers whilst at the nursery.

'The programme for knowledge and understanding of the world is a special strength of the nursery, children having daily access to surrounding fields and contact with farm animals,' the report stated.

The inspectors found that children developed confidence and self-respect and were well-behaved and polite.

Patricia French, principal and owner of Dimson Day Nursery, said: 'We work hard to build and maintain our excellent reputation, locally and nationally, for the quality of our nursery provision.

'This has been recognised during the past year by our inclusion in several DofEE good practise guides and other national publications.'

She said the 'excellent' report reinforced the nursery's national recognition.

'My staff and I are absolutely delighted — I would like to take this opportunity to thank the children, parents and staff for their support.'
