ONE of West Devon?s most popular country house retreats received a prestigious national award last week from renowned hospitality industry judges Les Routiers.
Tor Cottage at Chillaton was named Bed and Breakfast of the Year at the 2004 Les Routiers award ceremony in London last Monday with judges considering it best upheld the group?s criteria for hospitality, individuality, quality and value for money.
Owner Maureen Rowlatt attended the black tie event at the Four Seasons Hotel, alongside her daughter and business partner Amanda Loxton.
?It was a very nice evening,? Maureen said, ?the dinner was beautiful and it was an honour to be there.?
In fact, it is the seventh year running that Tor Cottage has received an all England award ? the ?small and special country house? has been recognised with a different national accolade every year since it opened.
Describing Tor Cottage, Mrs Rowlatt said: ?It?s really a romantic retreat ? spacious rooms with a log fire in each as well as a terrace and garden.
?We even had a mention for our heated swimming pool which a national paper described as being one of the fifty best in the country!?
In addition to the national title, Tor Cottage also won Les Routiers Bed and Breakfast of the Year for the South West region.
