South West Peninsula division one East

Crediton Utd 2

Okehampton Argyle 2

BOTH sides served up some excellent football in this exciting and entertaining local derby under Crediton's Lords' Meadow floodlights in front of a crowd of well more than a hundred.

Okehampton had the better of the early exchanges and produced some crisp passing movements using the whole width of the field.

At this stage they dominated but threw it all away on 12 minutes when poor defending allowed Phil Greenslade to fire Crediton into the lead. Argyle came back when eight minutes later a break down the left saw Kel Fofala feed Darren Prouse who squared the ball for Matt Sanders to fire home from the edge of the area.

Argyle won a free kick wide on the right in the 32 minute. Ed Squire's long raking kick found Steve Williams on the left hand edge of the box; the forward beautifully beat his marker and hit home a terrific goal from a narrow angle. However, Crediton levelled five minutes before the break with a goal from Phil Greenslade.

The second half saw Crediton having the better of the game and some of the fluency went out of Okehampton's midfield, especially when Steve Williams went off injured.

Crediton pressurised Argyle strongly in the last ten minutes and the Okes had keeper Harry Geering to thank for two brilliant saves — the second save three minutes from time was a magnificent reflex save to push a point blank header over the bar.

In the end, a draw was a fair result and the spectators must have left the ground feeling they had had an excellent evening's entertainment.
