IN the folk world there are few names that conjure such respect as Dave Swarbrick and Martin Carthy.
Both individually and together they have done much as ambassadors for English folk music. Born in 1941 Dave Swarbrick continues to be one of England's great folk professionals having played through the 60s, 70s and 80s onwards to enormous acclaim.
From the Ian Campbell Folk Group in the mid-60s Dave moved into a dual role with Martin Carthy and they have played together regularly ever since. He also figured in Fairport Convention and Whippersnapper.
Martin is regarded as one of the finest singers and interpreters of traditional music as well as a highly innovative guitarist.
In the 60s and 70s he figured in the Steeleye Span and Albion Country Band line-ups as well as being a permanent member of The Watersons with his wife Norma and brother and sister Mike and Lal.
On Saturday the Wharf brings these two great exponents of the best in folk music together in one great night.
