BATS 'A' team recently travelled to Plymouth to play Builders Badminton Club in Division 4 of the Plymouth and District Badminton League.

With the end of the season getting ever closer a good result was needed to maintain their position at the top of the table.

In the men's doubles rubbers Chris Woodroffe decided to make both his partners sweat by allowing the Builders pairs in each rubber to take one game. In the first men's doubles rubber Chris partnered Alan Berry and after winning the first game 15-13 the Builders pairs took the second rubber 5-15.

Chris and Alan then settled down to take the third game and the rubber 15-5. In the second rubber Chris partnered David Harrington and once again the first two games were shared 15-11, 10-15.

The third game was more comfortable when the BAT'S pair took the game and the rubber 15-6.

The third rubber was very one sided with Alan Berry and David Harrington imposing themselves on the Builders pair from the start. The rubber ended quite quickly 15-0, 15-2.

The ladies' doubles rubbers were quite one sided with all three BAT'S players turning on the style against the Builders players. In the first ladies' doubles rubber Susie Povey and Heather Cooper took a little time to settle but once the first game was won the rubber was taken easily 15-12, 15-2. The second ladies' doubles rubber saw Susie Povey and Glynis Hingston have the rare distinction of winning a game to love when they took the rubber 15-9, 15-0. The third ladies rubber saw Heather Cooper and Glynis Hingston continue the run of rubber wins for the ladies with a 15-5, 15-1 win.

With only the mixed doubles to play BAT'S knew that they had won the match but wanted to take as many points as possible to maintain their lead at the top of the division.

The first mixed doubles rubber saw BAT'S only defeat of the evening when the experience of the Builders pair proved just too much for Chris Woodroffe and Heather Cooper. The final rubber score was 15-5, 11-15, 8-15. The second mixed doubles pairing saw Alan Berry and Susie Povey totally out play the Builders pair. With the Builders pair having never played mixed doubles together before Alan and Susie soon had the rubber sewn up 15-0, 15-4.

The third mixed doubles rubber was again a little one sided but this time David Harrington and Glynis Hingston relaxed in the second game but took the rubber comfortably 15-4, 15-11.

At the end of the evening BAT'S 'A' team had taken eight of the nine league points available to maintain their top place in Division 4 of the Plymouth and District Badminton League.
