WEST Devon is set to play host to some of the UK's most talented musicians in the coming months, who have injected 'abundant vitality and freshness' into classical music. Hatherleigh Community Centre, which has teamed up with venues in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire to present 'Concerts in the West,' will be hosting five classical music concerts over the coming months — the first is to take place this Saturday. The Oboe Band are the ensemble in residence at the Royal College of Music and have performed across the country. Rosie Bradbury, Hatherleigh Community Centre manager, said: 'The concerts bring acclaimed UK musicians out from the London and European circuits to rural locations and offers something rarely available outside of London and the larger cities. 'I'm hoping the concerts will introduce a new listener to the beauty of these classical performances — I always think seeing and hearing the music first hand, with the musicians talking about the pieces, is far more enticing and memorable. 'I'm keen to host the musicians with a large audience and gain their enthusiasm for visiting Devon again.' The performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults, £8.50 for concessions and £3 for the under 16s. They are available from The Salar Gallery in Hatherleigh, from the community centre on 01837 810949 or will be available from 7pm on the night.
